Welcome aboard, Wendy! I live in Ohio like you, so I completely understand how excited you must be for your cruise with Disney to the warm waters of the Bahamas in March! As I type this, snow is falling outside my window and I'm dreaming back to our Disney cruise last month and the gorgeous warm beaches we experienced!
You'll be really happy to know that each time we've sailed with Disney, even in November and January, the water at
Castaway Cay has been great for swimming. Now, let me preface this by saying that I'm a total wimp about cold water, and though it was a bit chilly at first, once I got in (very slowly!) and started swimming, it was just perfect! My kids, however, ran right into the water, no problems at all! So, yes, I am sure that in March you'll enjoy beautiful water temperatures at Castaway Cay.
We love snorkeling in the Snorkel Lagoon at Castaway Cay, and do have our own snorkel gear that we bring. However, Disney does offer
snorkel gear rentals on the island if guests should not have their own with them. Either way, all guests must wear the bright yellow snorkel vest when in the Snorkel Lagoon area. If you bring your own gear, swing by Flippers n' Floats on the island to borrow a vest for each of you, no charge. Then, head out to the lagoon! Check out the spots where the large round bouys are floating. Below the waves in those spots, Disney has hidden some fun surprises to explore! If you're on the hunt for hidden Mickey's, keep your eyes open! My son and I snorkeled there last month and were so thrilled when a beautiful sea turtle swam right by us! I'm really excited for you to experience it!
Have so much fun, Wendy, and please stop back again if you have any other questions! We are happy to help!
