Hello. Running the glass slipper challenge in feb 2017. Starting to get nervous with this being my first half. I didn't submit a time so I will be in the last corral with my husband and daughter. Getting worried about getting swept. Advice?

    Hi Kristin!

Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Congratulations on taking on not only your first half marathon, but the Disney Glass Slipper Challenge at that!

My first piece of advice is to not stress (I know easier said than done) and really just enjoy the time with your family! If you are worried the entire race I'm afraid you won't enjoy it and it really is such a fun event and I want you to be able to soak in all the pixie dust!

Since you are doing the challenge and concerned about potentially being swept I would take it easier during the Disney Princess 10K. You don't want to burn all your energy and potentially have sore legs the morning of the half. Maintain your pace, but don't push yourself too hard to save some strength for the longer course.

While I want you and your family to be able to take in all the amazing Character Experiences along the course, if being swept is a concern I would potentially avoid these for the first couple miles. This will make sure you give yourself a little cushion to potentially stop and take some awesome pictures later when you have an accurate estimation of what pace y'all are maintaining.

Depending on your families training pace I would also recommend looking into The CLIF BAR Pace Team. The Pace Leader maintains a constant split pace the entire race and will help you cross the finish line within 2 minutes of their anticipated time! You can find out more information on them by visiting the Runners Info tab and scrolling down past the Race Pace chart! Their paces range from a 7.5 minute mile to just under a 14 minute mile.

Lastly, if you are unfortunately picked up along the course I want you to promise you will still be proud of yourself for even taking on the challenge. Just signing up for the events shows your courage and that you are a true princess!
