Donald Duck at the Race Finish; RunDisney

    I run 5k races at home, thought I would go safe and got into my 1st disneyworld 5k in April, is this a waste? I haven't been here in 20yrs and I am staying a few days to hit the parks. Do other people do this as well.

    Welcome to planDisney! Thanks for asking your question about runDisney, I started participating in events with my daughters a few years ago and we are hooked! Springtime Surprise Weekend is a fantastic event and the 5K race is a lot of fun. You'll quickly discover that runDisney races are a blast - what other races can you run and then stop and meet your favorite Disney Characters? While the route for the 5K race has not yet been released, in previous years, the course has taken runners around the World Showcase. It's a whole new way to experience EPCOT! 

    In past years, I've zipped down to Walt Disney World Resort just for the weekend and spent a day at the theme parks after the race. While I highly recommend staying longer and enjoying the parks, it is still fun to have a quick visit! It's so fun to be at the parks and see Guests wearing their race shirts and sporting their medals. Everyone is so friendly and you'll hear people congratulating one another on their race. I think you'll have a fantastic time!

    Be sure to experience the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival while you're visiting, it's a stunning springtime event featuring breathtaking gardens, beautifully crafted topiaries of beloved characters, the lively Garden Rocks Concert Series at the America Gardens Theatre, and the must-try Festival Outdoor Kitchens — a favorite for my family! The festival will be in full swing when you are there and you'll see some of the topiaries as you run your race.
