Ahoy, Leah, and welcome back to planDisney! Thank you for always trusting us with your Disney vacation planning questions. I love to see returning guests.
I have traveled on voyages with Disney Cruise Line with my children at many different ages. When they became teens, there was always a possibility that their day would be spent largely in our stateroom, enjoying movies and
room service.
Your son can absolutely stay on the ship while you head to Castaway Cay. The only issue here is when you are on the island, you lose all cell service and wi-fi from the ship. So, you will be out of range to be in contact with your son until you decide to return to the ship. He will not be able to leave the ship unless you fill out a “
Debarkation Authorization for Minors Form”. This will allow your son to leave the ship without you, but you will not have a way to get in touch with each other should he want to join you.
If your son spends some time in the teen club, Vibe, he might want to participate in the “
Wild Side Teen Adventure” port adventure on Castaway Cay. My daughter did this when she was 15 and had a blast. They went on a speedboat, snorkeled, and had the opportunity to bike around Castaway Cay. I don’t think we saw her for most of the day.
I did encourage our teens to always attend the first night of our cruise in Vibe. This is the night where all teens are in the same “boat”. They don’t know anyone, and the counselors lead some fun icebreaker games for the teens.
I hope this helps with planning for your sailing in just a couple weeks! Have a wonderful time setting sail with Captain Mickey and say “hi” to First Mate Goofy for me (he’s my favorite).
Bon Voyage,
Tracy
