what is a room upgrade and how do they pick if they would like to upgrade you? AOA 3 adults and 2 children March 2013

    Hi Kayla,

A room upgrade is when the hotel staff decides to give you a better room than the one you paid for, without increasing the price. This might mean that they give you a better view than the one you paid for, or that they give you a suite when you've only paid for a standard room.

Much more rarely, an upgrade might mean that Disney will upgrade your hotel entirely, perhaps putting you in a deluxe hotel when you've only paid for a value. This usually only happens when there is some sort of refurbishment or problem with your original hotel.

There's no specific way to get an upgrade. In my many, many dozens of WDW trips, I've only been upgraded once, from a standard room at All Star Movies to a preferred room at the same hotel. In my case, I was traveling alone and I believe that the female cast member at check-in thought I'd be more comfortable closer to the main building, but I'm not 100% sure about that. In some cases, cast members may see that you're celebrating a milestone and want to make your stay a little nicer. However, this is not standard practice and you should not expect it to happen.

If you'd like an upgrade, it certainly doesn't hurt to ask, but I would plan on something like this being possible. The Disney hotels are often fully booked, with each type of room being a capacity.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get the best accommodations possible during your vacation.
