Hi there, Anthony! I'm absolutely delighted to welcome you to planDisney!
I completely understand how essential it is to plan ahead when visiting Walt Disney World as a wheelchair user – it truly makes all the difference. Knowing which attractions are the most accessible and comfortable for you is key to having a smooth and enjoyable experience. That's exactly where I come in! My goal is to help make your time in the parks as seamless and stress-free as possible. I've been navigating Walt Disney World Resort in a wheelchair since I was a child, and it brings me so much joy to help other Guests create magical memories just like the ones I've cherished over the years.
There are several ways
Guests using mobility devices can enjoy attractions at Walt Disney World, so let's explore the options together.
To answer your question, you'll be happy to hear that
many attractions are able to accommodate powered wheelchairs. Some great examples include Jungle Cruise, Toy Story Mania, and Kilimanjaro Safaris. This option is certainly one of the most convenient, as it allows you to remain in your chair for the experience.
Some attractions require Guests to
transfer from their powered wheelchair into a standard manual wheelchair provided at the attraction, and then onto the ride vehicle itself. This includes experiences like Avatar Flight of Passage and Frozen Ever After.
Lastly, some attractions offer a
Transfer Access Vehicle, which is designed to make boarding and exiting easier for Guests who need to transfer. While you'll need to leave your powered chair behind for these experiences, the specially designed seating or accommodations help facilitate a smoother transfer process. Some attractions that feature this option include Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway and Na'vi River Journey.
To help make your planning smoother, I highly recommend exploring the Services for Guests with Mobility Devices section within the
My Disney Experience app. It's a valuable resource that allows you to see which attractions offer specific accessibility options, making it easier to navigate the parks.
You can use it both ahead of your trip to prepare and while you're in the parks for quick, on-the-go reference. To find it in the app, start from the Home Screen and tap the three horizontal lines in the bottom right corner. Then, scroll down and select, "Accessibility and Health Services." From there, choose "Services for Guests with Mobility Devices." This section is full of helpful information tailored to your needs.
Anthony, I hope this information helps! If I can be of any further assistance, please
reach out to me directly!
Wishing you a MAGICAL vacation,
Kami
