Have reservations Jan. 2 for AKL but may arrive Dec .31 and stay off property for 2 nights . What does Disney do to celebrate New Years ? Have heard it is very busy in the parks ,but want to see fireworks or some kind of celebration?

Hi, Cari!  There are usually extended hours at the theme parks for New Year's Eve, and there are typically special holiday fireworks at the Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios, as well as an extended version of Illuminations at EPCOT.  The official schedule hasn't been released yet, but this is what they have done in years past.

The parks not only get crowded, they can fill to capacity.  Especially if you are staying off property, I suggest arriving early to the theme park you want to end the day in, and plan to stay put!  There is no guarantee once you leave a theme park, even if it's just to go for lunch somewhere, that you will get back in.  It does get that busy.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you ring in the New Year doing something special!
