Hi Timothy, and welcome to planDisney!
Blue Bayou is a classic – it has one of the most unique atmospheres of all the dining locations inside Disneyland, and the food tastes great. I'm always in awe of how much it actually feels like nighttime inside, and it's extra fun noticing the
Pirates of the Caribbean boats cruise by. This is one of the most popular table-service restaurants at the Resort, so getting a reservation can be a little tricky. Let's get into it!
Timothy, while
dining reservations can typically be booked up to 60 days in advance, I've been informed by a Cast Member that reservations may become available on different days and/or at varying times for each location. I've personally had success booking early in the morning, but it seems like availability varies depending on when and for where you are looking to reserve. With a dining location as popular as Blue Bayou, reservations are snagged up quickly.
Here's some information that you may find helpful as you try to get a dining reservation, Timothy:
- Keep checking: As Guests modify their plans, additional reservations may become available, as close as one day out. I checked the availability calendar a few times while writing this response and noticed a reservation became available for November 19. Be persistent and check at different times, including late at night or early in the morning.
- There have been a few times when I've been able to eat at Blue Bayou without a reservation, but this is never guaranteed. I typically head there for lunch just before 11 a.m., and ask a Cast Member if they have availability, and that has worked out well for me. If you have a large party or are going during peak dining times, this may be harder to do. However, it's worth a try in the event you are unable to make a reservation online.
- Cafe Orleans is another restaurant in New Orleans Square, with a more casual setting but a great menu. You can even get a Mint Julep! Another popular choice is Carthay Circle, but that's over in California Adventure.
- Since you'll be visiting once the holiday season begins, consider a seasonal Character Dining experience or the Plaza Inn Dining Package for A Christmas Fantasy Parade. Either is sure to add some merry magic to your trip!
If you do have a chance to eat at Blue Bayou, Timothy, I highly recommend the Pistachio Lemon Basil Pasta, the Crème Brûlée Tart, and the Mint Julep. I also like to ride Pirates of the Caribbean after to round out the experience! In the area, you can also find
Fortune Red, an Audio-Animatronics fortune-telling attraction with a pirate twist! For a quarter, he'll give you a printed fortune, which makes for a fun souvenir.
Timothy, I'll wish upon a star that you'll be able to get a reservation to this classic Disneyland experience. If you think of any other questions between now and your trip, please reach out. We're always happy to help here at planDisney!
Your pal,
Kriss
