Welcome to planDisney and thanks so much for your question! It sounds like you're planning a really great way to start your day at the Happiest Place on Earth.
Typically, the Downtown Disney District opens to the public about an hour before the parks open, which is usually at 7:00 AM. You can confirm those details if you click the Downtown Disney District filter on the
Hours & Events Schedule page.
However, there is still an easy way to get over to
Disney's Grand Californian Resort & Spa from the
Disneyland Hotel! I would recommend exiting out of the south entrance of the Frontier Tower and continuing along Paradise Way toward Disneyland Drive. You should be able to see the Grand Californian Hotel to ensure you're headed in the right direction. Once you reach Disneyland Drive, you'll cross at the crosswalk and continue up the sidewalk toward the main entrance. Once inside, you can follow the signs to
Storytellers Cafe. These directions should come up in your favorite maps app as well if you want to view the route.
Depending on your walking speed, this should be about a 8-12 minute walk from the Disneyland Hotel's Frontier Tower.
