We have a reservation for 4 at California grill. My kids are 13 and 11. They don’t really like the adult menu and are too old for the kids menu. My question is if we feed them ahead of time, do they have to order anything for dinner or can they just come?

Cowabunga, Jeffrey, and welcome to planDisney! Let's hang ten like any good surfer and catch a wave. Your family will be visiting Walt Disney World Resort during a magical time of year, so let's look at some restaurant policies for Signature Dining experiences.

I chatted with a gnarly Cast Member who said that, in most cases, all party members occupying seats at California Grill would be required to order from the prix fixe menu. Reservations at many Disney restaurants are sought after, so the policy is that all present guests must order a meal.

You can always ask your server for suggestions, but there's no guarantee they will have any off-menu offerings. My family is plant-based, and we have had some delicious surprises when we've asked, so it's always worth a try.

If that's not the news you were hoping for, my best suggestion is to look over other menus online with your family to choose restaurants with something for everyone. My family loves Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant at Disney's Hollywood Studios because it offers kid-friendly fare along with some adult options. And who doesn't love to eat in a car while watching old monster movies?

Jeffrey, I'm sending pixie dust and California dreams that you'll make some memories to treasure on your upcoming visit. Please stop by planDisney anytime.

    Magic awaits,
    Elaine
