Welcome aboard, Carla! Are you getting excited for your Disney Cruise Line vacation? With a stop at Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, you're really in for a magical experience! My family and I were just at
Castaway Cay on our Disney cruise last week, and my son and I went out to spot the sunken treasures in the Snorkel Lagoon off of Family Beach. I'm happy to hear you're considering exploring what Disney has hidden under the waves there too!
Life vests are available to borrow for free near the entrance to Pelican Plunge, and come in all sizes, so feel free to borrow those there for use during the day. But, if you'd like to snorkel, there are special yellow snorkel life vests that must be worn by all snorkelers. These are included in the snorkel package rental, but if you bring your own snorkel gear, you're welcome to use that in the Snorkel Lagoon, however you must also borrow the required yellow snorkel vest from Flippers and Floats on the beach.
While I can't tell you the exact water depth in the deepest part of the
Snorkel Lagoon, since it changes with the tide, I would guess it's about 11 or 12 feet out at the furthest point, where you'll find all the fun hidden things to spot. Watch for a floating buoy at three spots, as they mark where the surprises are under the sea.
Last week, we saw a sea turtle swim right under us, in only about 6 feet of water as we swam out in that area, and also saw a sting ray. We've snorkeled there a few times, but the sea turtle spotting this time was pretty exciting! Besides that, there are all sorts of colorful fish to see!
Have so much fun as you get ready to set sail, Carla!
