Since you have removed the ovens in the cabins in ft wilderness, I was wondering if I can cook my dishes for thanksgiving in foil pans and how big is the openings

    Hiya Kathy!

Welcome to planDisney and an early Happy Thanksgiving to you! If there is something that I know more than traveling to Walt Disney World Resort it is Thanksgiving. I have cooked Thanksgiving for 100 people once and loved every minute of it.

As for a small family gathering at The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort sounds just as perfect. Traditional ovens have been replaced by a convection microwave oven and a two-burner electric stovetop. My research has found that this oven is similar to or could be a Kenmore Elite Microwave Hood Combination and it can function as a microwave, a convection oven, and a microwave/convection combination. According to a Cast Member I spoke with, this unit should be able to cook a full Thanksgiving dinner! It will take some time though so consider some stovetop dishes as well.

If cooking dinner in foil pans only use the convection oven setting. The other settings will not work well with any metal cookware. A good solution that can work with all the settings is heat-resistant glass or ceramic glass. I know it will be heavier and more work to clean than a disposable pan but it will guarantee to work in the oven at any setting. The cabins do come with dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans, a toaster, a coffee maker, and a dishwasher as well. The oven cavity dimensions are approximately 21.25 x 9.94 x 14.72 (width x height x depth). Just a suggestion, I once cooked a turkey on my grill and it was amazing and maybe that could be a way to free up the oven for some yummy sides.  Each cabin does have a charcoal grill but you would have to bring charcoal. No matter which way you cook ensure that all portions of the turkey or any other preferred poultry reach an internal cooking temperature of at least 165°F. Personally, I like my dark meat to reach 180°F. The cabins do not come with food thermometers and as a person who makes their living teaching food safety, I would ask you to consider bringing one! I also learned that the cabins could be lacking baking sheets and measuring spoons. As with traditional camping, consider bringing items that you would need to make your meal the best such as spices! If you are having groceries delivered from a grocery delivery service know that Bell Services will hold your items for you until you are ready to pick them up. If you do request that Bell Services deliver it to you know that there will be a small fee

I do hope this helps and you have a delicious time. Just for fun, consider trying a Disney Eats Recipe! The Rocky Road Cake looks like a sweet way to finish up a yummy Thanksgiving meal!

    Happy Planning!
