Hi, Helen!
It sounds like a Moderate Resort might be the perfect answer for you. Moderates will give you a few advantages over Value Resorts without the super high prices of a Deluxe Resort.
By upgrading to a Moderate Resort from a Value Resort, you will get larger rooms with Queen Size beds, nicer linens, plusher landscaping around the resort, a Table Service Restaurant (exception: French Quarter which shares its restaurant with Riverside), covered bus areas, and a hot tub near the feature pool.
My favorite Moderate Resort is
Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter. At around 1,000 rooms, it is the smallest of the Moderate Resort options. There is just one convenient bus stop, a wonderful food court, and even boat service to
Disney Springs. You can take a delightful 10-15 walk to sister resort
Riverside where you can rent bikes or enjoy their pools and restaurants.
French Quarter has a lovely pool area with a pool slide that will be just perfect for your kids, and within the last year, a fun splash zone was added, great for an afternoon break from the theme parks.
I hope you find the perfect resort that will fit your budget and fill the needs of your family. Each and every resort has its own bit of personality and magic, so you cannot go wrong with whatever you decide upon.
