Is a regular park admission ticket required for the Downtown Disney area? We are arriving in the afternoon and would like to take advantage of our hotel and Dowtown Disney the first day without using our regular park tickets. Is that possible?

No admission ticket is required for Downtown Disney.  It is a great activity for the first day, since you don't have to use up a park ticket to enjoy it, and you can still feel like you are surrounded by the magic of WDW.  All my kids love browsing the World of Disney (OK, I do too!), and my son especially loves the LEGO store.
