can you refuse to get your finger scanned at the gate?

Disney does take a biometric reading of your finger when you enter the turnstiles at the gate. This is not a fingerprint scanner. They are just trying to ensure that tickets are not transferred between multiple people. If you are uncomfortable with having your finger scanned, you do have the option of using a photo ID to match you with your ticket. Simply speak with a guest relations agent outside the park for information on how to do this.

You can read more about this topic on Search there for an article called "Disney's Finger Scan Upgrade Raises Privacy Concerns." If you're interested in all side of this issue, there are lengthy discussions of the biometric scanning on the Urban Legends website You'll find information on the Disney section of that site.
