Welcome aboard, Corlis!
My family and I love sailing with
Disney Cruise Line, no matter which itinerary we choose. One of the best parts is that we get to choose from so many amazing
Port Adventures which take us to some pretty spectacular local spots and activities in every port. The two you mentioned are both great, and I can say that with confidence because we've done both!
You didn't mention in which port you're considering these particular adventures, but if the price isn't too much of a factor, I'd definitely recommend the Dolphin Encounter (or even better, the dolphin swim, if the boys are old enough, as it depends on the port), over the Semi-Sub adventure. We've enjoyed them both in different ports, but I must say that my kids got way more out of, and have much more vivid memories of their time swimming with the dolphins. The semi-sub is a fun and relaxing adventure, and we did see beautiful sea life, but it's not very interactive. For my kids, they tend to learn more and remember more clearly, the adventures in which they are fully engaged and participating, thus the dolphin adventure is what I'd recommend. Before you get in the water with these beautiful creatures, you'll get a lesson in dolphin history, behavior, and care. I thought it was super informative! As a homeschooling mom, I love choosing adventures that really incorporate a learning opportunity along with a fun activity for my kids.
I hope that helps as you consider your adventures, Corlis! Feel free to stop back with more questions as you finalize all of your cruise plans! We're happy to help!
