Do you recommend booking a dining reservation on the day you arrive? We are arriving about 4:00 pm and wanted to book a dinner reservation but now I'm worried about possible delays in our air travel and not being able to cancel if we cannot make it.

Hi Carol! Part of the fun of a Walt Disney World vacation is dining at all the great restaurants, so I almost always make a dinner reservation for our arrival date, especially when we arrive later in the day and don't have time to visit a park. Many restaurants at Disney don't require a credit card guarantee and 24 hour cancellation, so if you're concerned about flight delays causing you to miss your dining reservation, book one of those. Downtown Disney is a fun first night destination. My family's frequent first Disney meal is at Wolfgang Puck Cafe. We love the pizzas and salads there. Raglan Road and Portobello are popular choices too, and none of those restaurants require 24-hour cancellation. If you don't want to make a reservation, consider heading to Downtown Disney anyway and kicking off your vacation with bowling at Splitsville. My kids love this luxury bowling alley where the server brings dinner to your table while you bowl.

I'd recommend that you make your dining reservation at 7:30 p.m. or later to give yourself plenty of time to get to your resort and then take the bus to Downtown Disney.

Come visit us again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! We'd love to help!
