What would you recommend to get the best out of a day visit (limited time to explore as coming from NZ) to magic kingdom with a 4 year old. Would want to have character visits with pixar characters and perhaps a show.

    Greetings, Shaun! Welcome to planDisney!

Four years old is a great age to visit Walt Disney World, and some of my favorite vacation memories are from when my kiddos were that age. The wonder in their eyes as they encounter each attraction and character is something you’ll never forget, and I find their enthusiasm usually rubs off on the whole travel party.

As far as attractions go, the Magic Kingdom is a great choice for young kids. It has the most attractions with no height requirements of all the Walt Disney World theme parks, and many of the shows are geared toward a younger audience. I would prioritize classic attractions like Dumbo the Flying Elephant, “it’s a small world,” and Peter Pan’s Flight, and if your kiddo is ready for dark rides, then Pirates of the Caribbean. When they are ready for a break, that’s a great time to check out shows like Mickey’s Philharmagic, Country Bear Musical Jamboree, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

There are plenty of character experiences to enjoy at the Magic Kingdom, but at the time I’m writing, I don’t see any Pixar characters making appearances at the Magic Kingdom based on information available through the My Disney Experience mobile app. If meeting Pixar characters is a critical part of your visit, then I’d recommend visiting Hollywood Studios. A quick search on the My Disney Experience mobile app and I see that Buzz Lightyear, Edna Mode, Frozone, Sulley, Jessie, Joy, Mrs. Incredible, and Woody are expected to make appearances at the park today (schedules and availability subject to change).

With your limited time, you might consider purchasing a theme park ticket with the Park Hopper Option or switching your visit to Hollywood Studios.  There are great rides for young kids at Hollywood Studios, including Toy Story Mania and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, as well as shows like Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll have a magical time!

Shaun, I hope this info helps with your vacation planning. Pop right back if you have any other questions or need additional recommendations. Your planDisney pals are here to help!

    Magical travels!
