Hi Tammy! Thanks for coming to planDisney to ask your Walt Disney World vacation question, we appreciate you trusting us.
Let me first say CONGRATULATIONS on your decision to have weight loss surgery. It is not an easy decision, nor an easy lifestyle, and you made a very courageous choice. I had WLS 17 years ago, and still sometimes find it difficult to eat in the WDW theme parks.
I am a foodie. I love good food, even if I can still only eat a small portion. After 17 years, I know all the tricks. I will never eat off the kid’s menu because I don’t want chicken nuggets and pasta. I want all the delicious things! Some of my tips:
•
Avoid buffet or family-style restaurants. Walt Disney World charges you as an adult, and since you won’t eat enough to justify that cost, don’t even put yourself in that situation. There are plenty of other great places to eat!
•
Order an appetizer as your meal. You can do this in any restaurant that isn’t prix fixe.
•
Plan to share a meal with another member of your family. I spent years eating part of a meal and sharing it with my son.
•
Bring your own snacks. Healthy options are harder to find, and when you are in the beginning of your weight loss journey, you need good options, so you don’t make bad decisions.
•
Split things. I can’t eat an entire Dole Whip, but I love it. You can ask to have it put into 2 smaller cups so you can share with someone else.
•
At a quick service restaurant, if you want the kid’s meal, you CAN order it. I do enjoy a kid's cheese flatbread from
Pinocchio Village Haus at Magic Kingdom.
•
If you want a treat, have it in moderation. I try to limit myself to one treat per day, and I share it. Don’t deny yourself completely.
•
Have FUN! Track your steps and be proud of yourself.
I hope this helps with your first trip post-surgery!
Happy Traveling,
Tracy
