I recently had to renew my passport and I’m worried it won’t be here in time for check in. Am I able to check in using my birth certificate and ID and switch to my passport after? Will I need documentation to show a change in name with birth certificate?

    Hi Ileana,

Thanks for sailing by planDisney with your question. I hope I can ease your mind about your required travel documents for your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

For round-trip cruises to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Pacific Coast, Bermuda or Canada, United States citizens can use a state-issued birth certificate AND government-issued photo ID for online check-in and for travel. (Keep in mind to enter or re-enter the US by air, you will need a passport). If your passport does not arrive before your check-in date, you should use your birth certificate and government-issued photo ID as your documents. If your passport arrives before the cruise, you can update your information.

To add your passport, navigate to the Already Booked tab on the website and select Online Check-In from the drop-down menu. You should see the option to Modify Check-In. Click there and you should see all your information including a Guest Information section. If you select that, you should see your name listed, click Edit next to your name, and then select Citizenship where you can add your passport to your documents. If you have any issues updating your information, give a friendly Cast Member at Disney Cruise Line a call

Your birth certificate can have your maiden name while your photo identification has your married name, so no worries there. Just make sure your cruise reservation is under the name on your government-issued photo ID.

Now that we have that all squared away, let's talk about embarkation day fun! Once you board the ship, you can enjoy lunch at the Rotational Dining table service restaurant that is serving or you could head up to lunch at the buffet-style restaurant. I prefer the table service restaurant where you can take a moment to review all the activities and entertainment offered during your sailing in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app while experiencing amazing service! I like to select the heart icon next to activities I don't want to miss so the app will send a reminder. Make sure to enable notifications from the app if you decide to use this handy feature.

I hope this information is helpful, Ileana, and you are setting sail soon! Let us know if you have other questions; we are happy to help.

    Wishing you many magical memories,
    Shannon
