Hello - I recently read on your site that there are monorail stops at Downtown Disney AND Disneyland Hotel. Is this true? (which would be great) because I also read that there is no stop at the Disneyland Hotel and you must first walk to Downtown Disney.

Hi there, Ronald, and welcome to planDisney!

Thanks for bringing your question to us and how exciting that your visit is almost here! Will you be staying at the Disneyland Hotel during your vacation? It's my favorite of the three Disneyland Resort Hotels and it brings back such as a sense of nostalgia whenever I'm on that property! I've seen it go through so many iterations!

What you read about the Disneyland Monorail is both correct and not correct. Let me explain. Back before the Downtown Disney District existed, the Monorail did indeed transport Guests back and forth between a station in Tomorrowland inside Disneyland Park to a stop at the Disneyland Hotel. The Hotel station was demolished when Downtown Disney District was built and a new station was opened in its place inside the west end of Downtown Disney. So today, Guests are able to travel from a Downtown Disney Monorail station to Tomorrowland to begin their day at the Happiest Place on Earth! Don't worry, though, because it's only a short walk from the Disneyland Hotel to the Downtown Disney Monorail station.

I love the Disneyland Monorail and find it a super convenient mode of transportation to get back to the Disneyland Hotel (even if there's a bit of walking after disembarking). It gives you such a unique perspective on the Parks and I still remember the ever popular game of trying to spot your car from the Monorail (back when it traveled over a parking lot!).

Fun Fact: The Mark I Monorail was partially involved in kidnapping then Vice President Richard Nixon along with his family for its inaugural ride on June 14, 1959. They were attending the ceremonies when Walt Disney instructed Disney Legend Bob Gurr, who was at the helm, to "Let's go." So he guided the Monorail away from its station but much to his horror, they had left Nixon's Secret Service detail behind at the station! It didn't help that they went for another lap around the track with Secret Service agents trying to run after them!

Ronald, I hope this helped you to better plan your vacation. Please let us know if you have any more questions and we'd be happy to assist you again! You're always welcome at planDisney and we'll see ya real soon!

Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
