Hi Michelle!
Congratulations on becoming Disney Vacation Club Members! Let me be one of the first to wish you a very warm, “Welcome Home!” Many years of magical vacations now await you! There are several different ways that your situation might work out. It depends on what kind of stay you have booked. If you bought directly with Disney Vacation Club, I would contact your Disney Vacation Club Guide. For new Members who are booking their very first Disney Vacation Club vacation, your Guide can sometimes assist with this if you are trying to book a room quickly during the purchasing process.
For a room only reservation, you can receive a full refund if you cancel at least 6 days in advance for online reservations, or 5 days in advance for reservations made over the phone. I do want to warn you, since we are already in June, availability at most Disney Vacation Club resorts will be extremely limited. I would not cancel your cash reservation until you are sure you have a Disney Vacation Club Resort available.
If you booked a vacation package, the cancelation policy is different. Within 45 days of your check-in date there is a cancelation fee. You may want to consider keeping one or two nights of your cash reservation, then adding the following days using your Disney Vacation Club Vacation Points. You can always bank any unused Vacation Points into the following Use Year, or take an additional vacation this year so that you do not lose any of those valuable points.
I hope this information is helpful, Michelle. Please let me know what other questions I can help with, especially as you learn how to use your new Disney Vacation Club Membership.
Wishing you Membership Magic!
