Hi Amber, and welcome back to planDisney! You’re going to be at Disney World during my favorite time of year when all of the theme parks are extra magical with holiday decorations.
I’m happy to confirm that Old Key West does currently offer a mosaics class on Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m. on the
Olivia’s Cafe Patio. It doesn’t appear to be a temporary offering, but activities are always subject to change. Conch Flat Mosaics is recommended for guests ages 12 and up and is run when weather permits, due to its location. Unlike some of the mosaics classes at other resorts, reservations aren’t needed for this one, but be sure to arrive early since space is limited.
In my experience, you’ll need to carve out about two hours to complete your mosaic. Even if you’re quick, some steps take time, like letting the glue dry before adding grout between the tiles. When you’re finished, your mosaic will need several hours to fully dry so Cast Members will give you a box to keep it safe. If you’re staying at Old Key West, you can drop it off at your room, but if not, you can always
rent a locker at the theme parks so you don’t need to carry it around all day.
In addition to the class at Old Key West, I’ve also seen mosaics classes at Coronado Springs, Animal Kingdom Villas - Kidani Village, All-Star Music Resort, Art of Animation Resort, Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter, Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, Contemporary Resort, Beach Club Resort, Riviera Resort, and Saratoga Springs Resort. Most resort hotels running this craft have the option to make a Mickey head, but what’s really cool is that some even have a mosaic option specific to their theme—like Simba at Animal Kingdom Villas or
Mary Blair’s five-legged goat at the Contemporary, honoring the mural near the monorail platform.
Generally, you need to check the Resort Activities schedule at each resort hotel to confirm the day of the week, time, and how to sign up (if needed), but
Spanish Mosaic Art at Coronado Springs and African Mosaic Art at Animal Kingdom Villas can be booked by calling the
Tours and Recreation phone number (Spanish Mosaic Art can also be booked online).
Earlier this year I made a five-legged goat at the Contemporary Resort and it was such a fun activity to do at Disney World and a great souvenir to take home! It also makes a nice midday break from the theme parks.
I hope that you enjoy your visit to Disney World and Old Key West in December! And if you have any other questions, you’re always welcome at planDisney.
