Hi! I recently found out that if you visit Fort Wilderness around Christmas, campers decorate their camp sites and there are beautiful lights to see. When does the decorating normally start? We are thinking of doing this on a no park day.

Hi Chelsea and welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I’m happy to see that you’re busy planning your family’s next visit to the most magical place on earth!

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is my family’s favorite place to stay during the Holidays for just that reason! I would say that campers arrive just before thanksgiving and start decorating. I visited during the first week of December 2018 and there were so many campsites and cabins beautifully decorated! We brought along our own golf cart and decorated it to join in the fun!

Chelsea, if you’re planning to visit the resort to view the decorations at night, you may want to consider a Horse Drawn Excursion- Holiday Sleigh Ride! I saw many of the carriages out and about, decorated for the season, complete with sleigh bells! They will fit up to 4 adults and will take you around many of the festive sites. The best way to make your reservation is by calling (407) 939-7529 up to 180 days before your visit.

To get to the resort, just look for the boat launches for Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground near the entrance of the Magic Kingdom Park. It’s a real treat when your boat ride coincides with the Electrical Water Pageant – Magic Kingdom Park. On most nights, you can view the twinkling lights across the lagoon, right from the marina of the resort at 9:45 p.m.

I hope this information is helpful to you! Please feel free to stop by again to see us if you have any more questions. Helping you with the details of your next magical visit is our pleasure!
