Is it reasonable to have a reservation at Wispering Canyon at WL at 6:00 and make it to the Fort Wilderness campfire by the lighting at 7:30 during the summer? Can you walk between the two?

    Hi Nanci,

How fun, you  guys will love Whispering Canyon and be sure to ask for the ketchup. Athough the two resorts are near each other, there is no way to walk between them, it would be quite a hike down a busy road or thru a wooded area with no walkways. There are two options that will get you to Fort Wilderness from Wilderness Lodge. There is a bus that runs from the front of the Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness, or there is a boat that you can take from the boat dock in the back of the Wilderness Lodge. If you choose to take the boat be sure to look at the flags on the boat before boarding. Depending on the color of the flag, the boat is headed to different stops.

Unfortunately I do not think you will make it from a 6pm reservation to the 7:30pm campfire lighting. I normally plan about an hour and fifteen minutes for dinner, plus there is no guarantee you will be seated right at 6:00. Following dinner you will need to walk to either the boat or bus and wait for one to arrive. It is not a long ride but will still take at least ten to fifteen minutes by the time you board, leave and get to the campgrounds. The other thing you need to consider is the campfire is held behind the Meadow Tradin Post which is located near the middle of the campgrounds. The bus will bring you to the front of Fort Wilderness and the boat dock is in the back. From either spot you will need to board an internal bus to take you to the Meadow Tradin Post stop and then walk the short distance to the campfire.

I would try and make an earlier reservation or choose to visit the campfire on a different night. Hope you have a great time!
