I was reading under some reviews on allears (about DP) that "Sometimes you can swap a dessert credit for another beverage" is this really the case? Thanks! Your advice is worth a million bucks in my opinion!

We get asked about substitutions and modifications to the Disney Dining Plan with some regularity. These are some questions I've seen in recent months:

    - Can we get another beverage instead of dessert?
    - Can we get an appetizer instead of dessert?
    - Can my older child get a kids' meal instead of an adult meal?
    - Can we share a table service meal on the dining plan?
    - Can we trade unused meal credits for snack credits?

The official answer to all of these questions is, "No." Officially, you can't trade a dessert for a drink; you can't get an appetizer instead of dessert; and so on. However, you will hear many accounts of guests who have been able to do all of the things listed above.

The rules of the Dining Plan are sometimes not followed to the letter because:

    - A cast member is misinformed. There are new cast members all the time who might not be fully aware of the rules.
    - A cast member is being kind. If you find this is the case, please thank them profusely.
    - Disney has TEMPORARILY changed the rules to fit a unique circumstance. For example, last year during the free dining promotion, there were simply not enough table service venues to accommodate everyone who wanted to dine at table service meals. As a form of remediation, Disney allowed guests to use table service credits for multiple counter service meals and for a free gift. You many find that other similar situations have occurred.

This was a long way of saying that you may be able to get an extra drink instead of dessert, but this will probably not happen. It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask your server if you can do this. The worst thing that can happen is that they will say, "No."
