I read somewhere that there are no hall ways at POFQ? that access is from the outside only?

Yes, this is true. The value and moderate resorts at Walt Disney World are configured with the traditional motel-style room access, with the room doors facing out to the open air. The deluxe resorts are configured with the traditional hotel-style room access, with the room doors opening to an internal hallway.

Since Port Orleans French Quarter is a moderate resort, you do access your room directly from the outdoors.
