I've read there is a formal and/or a semi-formal night on the cruises. We are on an 8 day cruise in August. Is the formal night at one of the restaurants that are on your dining rotation? If so, are you required to dress up? We have 16 people going.

    Ahoy Michelle!
I'm also gearing up for an eight day Bahamian voyage in just a few days!  You are going to love the rotational dining experience only offered on Disney Cruise Line!  Each night you will be accompanied by your wonderful servers to one of three main dining rooms.  On your sailing you can expect the following dining attire schedule-Day One-Cruise Casual, Day Two-Formal, Day Three-Cruise Casual, Day Four-Pirate/Cruise Casual, Day Five-Cruise Casual, Day Six-Cruise Casual, Day Seven-Semi-Formal, and Day Eight-Cruise Casual.  On the formal/semi-formal nights you will see a variety of attire including tuxedos and long gowns.  But, that formal of attire is not required.  If you want to get a group photo, these are great nights to visit with the ship's photographer.  They do a fantastic job of capturing magical cruise moments!
I hope may answer helps with your planning, Michelle!
    Have a wonderful day!
