I read about a DVC member recommending a preferred parking pass for $25. What is a preferred parking pass, and what can it do for us? We’re DVC members at OKW, and I am disabled with a parking placard, but I’ve never heard of this pass.

    Hey Howdy Hey, Linda!

Welcome to planDisney! Thank you so much for moseying by with your question.  It sounds like you are looking for the closest and most accessible location to park your wagon. I can certainly help you!

Linda, Preferred Parking is an option at each of the theme parks where Guests can pay extra to park closer to the entrance in the general parking lot.  Currently, the rates for Preferred Parking are $50, $55, or $60 per day for a car or motorcycle (the rates vary based on time of year and are subject to change) for day Guests. For Guests staying at a Disney Resort Hotel and Annual Passholders, standard parking is complimentary. So, if those Guests choose to upgrade to Preferred Parking, then they just have to pay the difference between the cost of the standard parking (which is complimentary for them) and Preferred Parking, and it is usually $15-$20 per day (subject to change).

The Preferred Parking pass is good for the day at more than one park, but it expires at the end of each day.  Once purchased at the booth at the entrance to the park, Cast Members will give you a sign and direct you where to go for Preferred Parking.  It does save Guests a few steps after a fun (and tiring) Disney day.

Now, because you have a Disability Parking Pass, you would probably be better served using these reserved spaces. Typically, the Disability Parking areas are closer to the entrance and elevators or other accessible areas than the Preferred Parking areas.  However, I would recommend double-checking with the booth attendant as you drive into the park to confirm the location of Disability Parking at each park.  This would ensure you have the best access to the park, and hopefully will save you the parking fee.

If you have any further questions, giddy-up back here to see me, and I'll be so happy to help you. Afterall, you've got a friend in me!

    Happy Trails!
