I've read that Disney World is even more of a special place at Christmastime, with decorations and special shows and other holiday magic. Are their any special Hanukkah traditions at the parks or resorts?

    Hi Shawna -

You are correct that Disney is really over-the-top with Christmas. The lights, music, decorations, and parties are truly extraordinary. I wish I could say that they gave equal attention to the winter holidays of other faiths, but unfortunately this is not the case.

As far as acknowledgement of Hanukkah goes, this is what you can expect to find:

    - A Hanukkah-related storyteller a few times a day in the American Adventure pavilion at Epcot. This is part of the "Holidays Around the World" program.

    - Menorahs near the theme park entrances and in the hotel lobbies that are dwarfed by GIGANTIC Christmas trees.

    - A bit of Hanukkah-theme merchandise for sale in the shops. This may include trading pins with a character holding a dreidel or a Disney character menorah.

The Christmas presentations are breathtaking, I don't want to take anything away from that. However, i live in a predominantly Jewish community. Every time I visit WDW in December, as happy as I am to be there, I can't help but think that my many Jewish friends might be uncomfortable with the stark inequity among the celebrations.
