I have read that you can bring soft sided coolers into the parks with drinks. Are we allowed to bring aluminum cans and are water bottles allowed in Animal Kingdom? I wasn't sure if they would allow the caps to come in.

The only beverage containers that guests are specifically prohibited from bringing into the parks are glass bottles. There are no rules against bringing aluminum cans or water bottles into any of the theme parks, including the Animal Kingdom. I bring water bottles and soda bottles with caps into the AK all the time with no problems.

You are correct though that there are some extra precautions taken at the Animal Kingdom. The restaurants at the AK do not use plastic straws or cups lids. This is a safety measure so that these items do not accidently make their way into the animal habitat areas. It can be a slight inconvenience, but it's well worth it to keep protect the health of the many wonderful species that make the Animal Kingdom their home.
