I just read a blog on mousesavers about advantages of a rental car vs disney world transp. saving considerable time with a rental car. Trip set for Oct, staying 6 days a Port-Orleans RIverside with kids age 8 & 5. Any thoughts on car rental?

Hi Mike! To rent or not to rent?  That is the question...  As a frequent Walt Disney World vacation-eer, I will say that I've consistently opted for a rental car over Disney transportation.  Disney transportation is awesome and we've used it several times, however, I just prefer the ability to get in a car and go.  There are definite perks with having a rental car at WDW.  Primarily, you do not have to worry about transfers from bus to bus to return to your resort, nor do you have to wait for the buses to stop at sister resorts prior to arriving at your resort.  The autonomy associated with having a rental car is what I enjoy most.  I can leave my resort and travel directly to another resort, and I do not have to wait for bus after bus because they are crowded (especially in the summer months).  I can't say that it saves you great amounts of time, but you are able to get places much easier.  The caveats to renting a car is, of course, refueling, and at today's gas prices, its enough to consider bus transport.  Also, although parking is free for resort guests, you do need to wait for the tram to take you to theme park or the TTC.  Where a bus would leave you quite close to the entrance, a car would require sometimes a bit of a trek, depending on where you are parked!  My suggestion is if you get a great deal on a rental car, then I would definitely rent.  If the prices are astronomical, as I have seen, then Disney transport is definitely your way to go! Hope this helps you plan your magical vacation! -Malanie
