We have been on quite a few Disney vacations and have a whole collection of magic bands. How do you recycle the extra/old ones?

Hi, Edward! Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

As Annual Passholders, my family and I also have quite the extensive collection of MagicBands. I typically keep our “Disney bag” packed with the items we always take on our Walt Disney World Resort vacations (misting fans, cooling towels, etc.), and our MagicBands “live” in there. You do have other options, though.

After deactivating your MagicBands in your My Disney Experience account, you can return them to the concierge at your Walt Disney World Resort hotel for recycling. If you’d just like to reuse the ones you already have, you can always decline new MagicBands for any future Walt Disney World Resort hotel stays. (My daughter and I like keeping our collection and coordinating our MagicBands with each day’s Theme Park outfit.)

If you won’t be returning to Walt Disney World Resort for awhile, just Google “MagicBand crafts” and you’ll see lots of fun options for creative uses for them. My favorites include MagicBand wreaths or any of the adorable MagicBand displays available on Etsy. (Or if you’re super handy or crafty, you can make one yourself). My daughter has turned our original MagicBands (the first generation without the removable puck) into collars for some of her stuffed animals, and I’ve also seen them used as everything from napkin rings to cable ties for wrangling all of those power cords coming out of your computer.

With dozens of possibilities for repurposing your MagicBands, Edward, I hope you find one that works for you. Of course you can also start planning your next Walt Disney World Resort vacation and put them to use once again! We hope to see you real soon.
