Do the queues for the rides and attractions have shade over them or are you in the sun?

Welcome to planDisney, Darren! Your visit to the Disneyland Resort is almost here. I am happy to answer your question and also share some tips on how to beat the heat.

Queues for rides and attractions typically have a mix of outdoor and indoor portions. Not all of the outdoor portions of the queue have a shaded covering, although some do have trees and other vegetation to help shade from the sun. For example, the Indiana Jones Adventure does have a portion of the queue outdoors but it is covered by foliage to help with keeping cool. My recommendation would be to bring a hat or an umbrella to help keep shaded while in the outdoor portions of attraction queues.

Also, bottles of sunscreen are allowed, so you may want to pack that as well to help protect yourself. If you run out or are unable to bring it with you on your trip, it is available to purchase at many locations throughout both parks. Also, there are refillable water stations, which you can find by typing “Bottle Filling Stations” into the search bar of the Disneyland app. Finally, most quick service locations offer free cups of cold water, so be sure to take advantage of that if needed.

One final tip: I would suggest hitting up the attractions with primarily outdoor queues (like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or the Incredicoaster) earlier in the day or in the evening when it is cooler. You can then use the afternoon to either head to your hotel for a break or head into attractions that are primarily indoors such as the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln/Walt Disney – A Magical Life, the Enchanted Tiki Room, or the Disney Animation Building. My family has used these attractions as a way to recharge in the middle of a summer day.

Darren, I hope this helps you stay comfortable while enjoying everything the Disneyland Resort has to offer. If any other questions come to mind as you count down to your visit, we're always happy to help here at planDisney!

    Stay cool!
