Hello. Question: if my family and I do not do any work excursions on Catalina island, and rather tour around ourselves, would we be able to return to the ship after a couple of hours? Or do we need to wait until the bost picks everyone up at the end?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for cruising by planDisney with your Disney Cruise Line vacation question! I'm happy to help you make the most of your vacation.

At Catalina Island, tender boats will transport Guests from the ship to the port. Tenders will disembark at Avalon, near the center of town. You have lots of options for exploring on your own by taxi, bus, shuttle, bicycle, or walking. Tenders run continuously during the day so you are free to return to the ship when you are ready. I suggest checking with the Crew Members about tender return times since you won't want to miss the last all aboard. The ride to and from the ship should take less than 10 minutes. Be sure to have your Key to the World card and your photo ID with you whenever you are ready to disembark the ship.

I love to enjoy the ship while other Guests are off on Port Adventures. It is a great time to take advantage of the pool or one of the lounges for a quiet day. I think spending a few hours exploring the island and then returning to the ship is a great plan!
