Hi My question is we are going to Disney and I'm a diabetic and need to take my shots during the day. Do they have a sharps disposal in the parks? If so where would they be? Also can I store my insulin @ the first aid? Do they have a place? Thanks Lori

Hi, Lori Ann!  I'll never forget my first trip to Walt Disney World on insulin!  I was a nervous wreck, wondering all the same things you're wondering now.  I sure could have used this Moms Panel back then!

The first aid stations at the theme parks and water parks will store your insulin for you.  They also have sharps containers, so you can properly dispose of your syringes and lancets.  Each theme park has their first aid stations clearly marked on the park maps, so when you go into the park in the morning, you can head right there with your insulin.

Keep a good track of your sugars!  Test more often than when you are home, because you would be surprised at how much all that exercise can affect you!  I always took double of everything I needed - an extra meter, extra lancets, and even more insulin than I thought I would need.  Keep your doctor and pharmacy phone number handy as well, just in case.

And an invention that I LOVED for when I was at Walt Disney World was my FRIO pouch.  This cooling pouch is especially designed to carry medication like insulin that is meant to be refrigerated.  It allowed me to keep my insulin with me, so in case one of the kids needed me for something at one end of the park and the first aid station was at the other end, I didn't have to worry about heading back to do my shots.
