Hi Erin,
Welcome aboard planDisney! Thanks for bringing your question to us. How exciting that you are planning a Disney Cruise Line vacation with your son. You are sure to be named "Mom of the Year!"
Erin, the fare rate is based on how many Guests occupy a stateroom and based on the age of each Guest. However, for a stateroom with two Guests, regardless of age, the price is equivalent to two adult fares. For the subsequent Guests occupying a stateroom, the rate is reduced including a reduction based on age. You are correct that Guests ages 3-12 are charged a reduced fare, but only if they are the third or subsequent Guest in the stateroom. I'm sorry this isn't what you were hoping to hear, and I hope that you are still planning to take a magical cruise.
One thing to keep in mind, Erin, is that you can
pay for your cruise at your own pace. I take advantage of this option almost every time I cruise so that I can budget throughout the months leading up to my vacation.
While I know the initial price can surprise you, remember that
almost everything is included on a Disney Cruise Line vacation, except for a few experiences and
Port Adventures. Your son will love
Disney's Oceaneer Lab and
Disney's Oceaneer Club and you will both enjoy the
nightly entertainment,
Rotational Dining, and even
room service included in your cruise!
I hope this information helps with your decision-making, Erin. Please let us know if you have other questions. We love helping other Guests plan a vacation of a lifetime!
Wishing you many magical memories,
Shannon
