Hello I purchased tickets to Disneyland before the announcement of passes going back on sale. Passes go on sale Wednesday 1/22 and I have tickets for Sunday 1/26. I plan to purchase the passes. Can I use the ticket purchase towards a down payment?

Hi there, Sandra! Welcome to planDisney.

I know when Disneyland announced that Magic Keys were going to resume sales this week, there was a swirl of excitement. It's the most magical time of the year! We are getting a lot of questions about options for those Guests currently holding standard theme park tickets, so I have some good information to share with you.

While upgrading a standard theme park ticket to a Magic Key is possible, there are some things to consider while making your decision. When you upgrade to a Magic Key, any theme park reservations you are currently holding will not transfer over. Key holders have their own pool of reservations to choose from and may have certain dates unavailable or blocked out. I recommend taking a look at the Magic Key reservation calendar before making any changes to see if the 26th has availability for the key you are hoping to purchase. Reservations are always subject to change as Guests make or change their plans, but something to note if you are set on visiting this weekend.

Magic Keys are set to go on sale no earlier than 9:00am PST on January 22nd, 2025. Since we don't know how many of each will be available or how long sales will be open, upgrades are not guaranteed. There are two options for upgrading, so let's take a look at each. The first is to visit the ticket booth in the Main Entrance Esplanade. Upgrades for wholly, unused tickets do need to be made in person. If you live locally, you could do this on the day Magic Keys go on sale for the best chance at availability. Note that in this case, you would need to book your new theme park reservations for the 26th. The Cast Member may be able to assist here if there is availability, but it's not guaranteed.

The second way to upgrade is to wait until you scan into the parks on January 26th. In this scenario, you would open your Disneyland Mobile App, head to the "Tickets & Passes" section, and select a ticket. If Magic Keys are available, you will see an option to upgrade. In this case, you would be able to keep your current theme park reservation, however, you would be subject to Magic Key availability, and it is possible sales would close before you get to the parks.

Sandra, I know this was a lot to take in, but I hope it was helpful. I'll be wishing on a star that you are holding that key to the kingdom in no time. I highly recommend following the Disneyland Magic Key Instagram account for the latest news and information. It is likely that this will be updated as sales resume and close for specific keys over the next week or so. It's also where you will find out about special offerings and opportunities once that key is yours! There are currently some exclusive Lunar New Year merchandise offerings, photo opportunities, and giveaways just for key holders!

If you have any more questions, we are always here for you at planDisney.

    Magic awaits!
