Hello! I purchased a three day southern ca ticket and now the magic key is going on sale. How can i apply the $199 toward my magic key?

    Hi Melissa,

Thanks for visiting planDisney with your question. You stopped by right on time, Magic Key passes go back on sale Wednesday, January 22, 2025! All four pass types will be available for purchase while supplies last. I was able to snag one last year, and I have been having the time of my life.

When I got my Magic Key, I was also upgrading from the SoCal Resident 3-Day Ticket. I was reading some of the fine details (under “UPGRADES”) about the Magic Key and I am happy to tell you that you can upgrade to an available Magic Key and what you have already paid will be applied to the upgrade.  You could use all three of your SoCal Ticket days, and then upgrade to the Magic Key on the last day. Be sure to upgrade before the clock strikes 12 on your last day, because at Midnight your chance to upgrade is gone. Talk about a Cinderella moment!

This is an important piece because reservations you made on the original deal will not roll over to your Magic Key pass. Some of the Magic Keys have blackout dates and at this time, some days no longer have available reservations. You might be holding a special park date that you could lose when you upgrade. Check the Magic Key Calendar to see if any of your current reservations overlap with blackout dates or are unavailable with the Magic Key you are interested in buying. If you are flexible when you visit, then this won’t be too much of an issue.

Keep in mind that when you upgrade to a Magic Key, the pass will be backdated to begin on the first day the original ticket was used. For example, if I first use the SoCal ticket on January 1 and my last visit is on May 15, my Magic Key pass will expire on January 1, 2026, not May 15, 2026.

When I waited to upgrade last year, the Imagine and Enchant keys were all sold out. I bought a higher tier, but that worked for me and my family anyway. When you wait to upgrade, you run the risk of the pass you want being sold out.

I hope this information is helpful, Melissa. As Scar said, “Be prepared!” You came to the right place to get information, tips, and tricks on how to get a Magic Key. I know you will pick a strategy that works for you and your family. Please feel free to write back to me or my fellow panelist if you have any more questions. Good luck pixie hunting!

Wishing you a magical trip and the best of luck!
