Ahoy, Marcia, and welcome to planDisney! It’s always a pleasure to help a fellow Pennsylvanian plan their Disney Cruise Line vacation!
I’ve used a
DisneyBand+ on my last couple of cruises, and while it’s not required (you’ll still receive a Key to the World card) it definitely makes things a little more convenient and a lot more fun. You can use your DisneyBand+ to board the ship, unlock your stateroom door, and charge purchases to your stateroom account. It’s also waterproof, so it’s perfect for pool days. I’d just skip wearing it while snorkeling at Castaway Cay…unless you want to make a fish very happy. Don’t ask me how I know, lol!
For your cruise on the Disney Fantasy, you can
purchase a DisneyBand+ ahead of time or buy one once you’re on board. The DisneyBand+ is the same as the MagicBand+ used in the Disney Parks, so if you already own a MagicBand+, you’re all set, since it will work on the ship too. Guests with a valid U.S. address can order a DisneyBand+ by visiting
My Reservations on the Disney Cruise Line website or by logging into the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Be sure to customize it with your preferred style and name at least 11 days before your sailing. It typically arrives about 10 business days after placing your order, so plan accordingly.
Once you’re on board, you can pair your DisneyBand+ to your phone via Bluetooth in the Navigator app to check the battery life, update software, or adjust settings. The battery usually lasts 1–3 days and can be recharged using the included USB cable (so don’t forget to pack your charger). Pressing the button on the back will show the current battery level: green is good, but flashing yellow or red means it’s time to plug in.
If you’re traveling with kids, the DisneyBand+ can even be used to access the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab instead of a traditional Oceaneer Band. Just remember that the Disney-issued Oceaneer Band must be returned before the last day of your cruise to avoid being charged for it.
As for which bands are available, adults and kids can choose from any of the DisneyBand+ designs offered online. There aren’t specific versions made just for kids or adults, and anyone can wear any of the options! For smaller wrists, the outer layer of the band can be removed for a better fit. You’ll also notice that some designs vary a bit in price.
I hope this helps, Marcia! Wishing you a smooth sailing!
Sea ya real soon,
Eean
