were can you see the princesses without going to meals

Yes. While a great way to see many of the princesses quickly is to dine at a princess-oriented character meal, you can certainly meet the princesses in other locations as well.

There is often a princess greeting line at the Toontown Hall of Fame at Toontown in the Magic Kingdom, be sure to check the signs at this venue, as there are lines for other characters as well. Individual princesses have their own meeting zones throughout the parks. For example, Ariel has her own permanent greeting area at the Grotto, near the Dumbo ride at the Magic Kingdom. Belle has a storytime reading in the Magic Kingdom, as well as a meet and greet in the France pavilion at Epcot. Jasmine greets guests in the Morocco pavilion, Mary Poppins is in the England pavilion, and Mulan is in China.

You'll want to pick up the free Times Guide as you enter each park. This will give the greeting times for scheduled characters. There are also characters that greet guests on the spur of the moment. For example, I have seen Snow White greet guests on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom several times, even though she was not listed on the Times Guide. To find out if your favorite characters will be appearing anywhere, go to the Guest Relations office at any of the theme parks. Ask them to call the "character hotline" for you. They will be able to tell you exactly where and when a specific character will be appearing at the time of your visit.
