Ahoy there, Brian. Thanks for sailing by planDisney.
As one of the resident physicians on the panel, I had to grab your question! Anytime I get the chance to combine my profession and my love of all things magical, I'm in. Since your cruise is just around the river bend, let's dive in quickly.
The short answer is yes, Disney asks that you bring all prescription medications in their original container. This is for safety and quick identification in case of emergency. The cruise is staffed with a
doctor and nurse 24/7, and they are busy! (For some reason, one of my kiddos always seems to end up in the
medical bay, so I know. And the irony is not lost on me!) Anything we can do to help facilitate their ability to take care of you safely and efficiently is the way to go. That said, you can bring over-the-counter medications in a pill box or smaller container (or ziplock bag) for convenience.
If any medications need refrigeration, you will have a small fridge in your stateroom (I have an auto-injectable migraine medication that requires refrigeration, and its larger box fits easily). If you need to bring specialized medical equipment (including a CPAP or supplemental oxygen), please complete a
Special Services Form before sailing to alert the crew. If necessary, a Cast Member will reach out for additional information. Also, a
small sharps container is in your stateroom bathroom if you need to dispose of needles, syringes, or vials.
Brian, make sure to pack your prescriptions in your carry-on luggage. I would also have a copy of your prescriptions and any relevant medical information in your day luggage. FYI, if you have medically prescribed THC or cannabinoids, they are
not permitted onboard, so leave those meds at home. If you have any other questions, you know where to find us. I wish you a magical sailing!
