Hi Katie,
Welcome back to planDisney and thank you for asking us another great question!
I admit it: I’m totally addicted to Disney medals of any kind! I have several
Disney Castaway Cay 5K medals in my collection and each one has a story.
I’m quite pleased that I was able to add yet another medal to my haul earlier this year during my sailing on the
Disney Wish, and that’s when I saw that the race was run a little bit differently than in the past. First, there’s no longer a formal start time for this event: it’s done whenever you want, at your own pace, kind of like a virtual race. Because of this, you no longer need to register for the race (or get a bib) and there’s no “course” support. You just go pick up your medal at the
Bicycle Rentals booth located near the second tram stop (Pelican Point) once you’ve completed the distance.
This important change means that now, anyone can participate in the Castaway Cay 5K, including younger cruisers! That said, it can get pretty hot out on that course, so I encourage you to bring enough water for your whole party to drink during the experience.
Finally, baby strollers and wagons are available at both the Scuttle’s Cove Tram stop (the first stop) or at Pelican Point for you to use throughout your visit to Castaway Cay. These strollers are available on a first-come, first-served basis so if you want to pick one up, I’d recommend getting to the island early. Plus, that way you’ll be able to participate in the 5K before the midday heat REALLY kicks into high gear!
I hope my answer helps you plan the perfect day at Castaway Cay! Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions.
Have a Magical Day,
Lynne
