Hiya Megan,
Welcome to planDisney, and greetings from 220 miles above Earth.
Space 220 was at the top of my dining reservation wish list, so I’m excited you will get to experience it during your trip. I really loved the
truffled herb parmesan potato wedges, and the Starship Lemonde was one of the most refreshing zero-proof sippers I’ve ever had.
Taking the interactive space elevator up to the impressive panoramic views aboard the Centauri Space Station is one of the hallmarks of the dining experience, but I totally understand our little one’s hesitancy. When I visited Space 220 during my baby moon while everyone else was enjoying the fun views, I leaned against the wall, battling motion sickness. Unfortunately, the space elevator is the only way to get up the Centauri Space Station. The dining location has stairs reserved for emergencies, but Guests are directed to use the elevator. When I spoke to a Cast Member, they advised that you can ask the Cast Member at check-in if they can accommodate you utilizing the stairs, but there are no guarantees they will be able to accommodate you.
Megan, one suggestion that I have to help your little one prepare for the elevator experience is to look up one of the Space 220 elevator walkthroughs online. Some Guests have captured the entire experience in great detail, which could be a great tool to help your son know what to expect. We’ve used this similar tip whenever we travel with my godchildren. We will watch the attraction ride videos together, and by the time they get on the ride, whatever fear they had before we went on the trip has disappeared (or we know that we can skip that attraction). If, after seeing the video, your son is still not a huge fan, you can make a judgment on what to do next.
I’m so sorry this wasn’t the answer you were probably hoping for, Megan. Please come back and see
us if you need anything else.
Happy Planning,
Ashley F.
