Laissez les bons temps rouler, Yadira! As a native New Orleanian who now lives in the Northeast, I'm always yearning for a good ole Mardi Gras parade come February. One of my favorite childhood memories occurred almost 30 years ago when my parents took us to Walt Disney World Resort over Fat Tuesday. Let's talk about where you can find the best carnival festivities during your upcoming trip!
Since you'll be visiting Disney's Port Orleans Resort during Mardi Gras, there are typically fun activities throughout both the
Riverside and
French Quarter sections of the resort (and by the poolside) which Guests can take part in. Every year, Port Orleans Cast Members take part in a competition to see which department can concoct the most creative Mardi Gras parade floats made using the maintenance staff's golf carts also known as "Pargo" vehicles, and they usually pass out candy and beads. Sometimes Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen show up in a horse-drawn carriage. This year's parade was held from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 5, and the theme was The Magical Lands of Disney. There was also a "Magical Mardi Gras" courtyard party at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter, and the celebrations included a DJ, dancing, character meet and greets, complimentary face painting, a King Cake eating contest, and a Decorate Your Own Mask craft event.
Remember that every day is Fat Tuesday at
Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, so put on your purple, green, and gold beads and treat yourself to some iconic Cajun and Creole cuisine, such as Jambalaya, Gumbo, King Cake, and Mickey-shaped Beignets! And if you're looking for a New Orleans libation to cap off the night, try
Scat Cat's Club or the
River Roost Lounge (home of performer
Yehaa Bob) for a Southern Hurricane. You'll feel right at home!
I hope you're
jazzed about your trip, Yadira! If there's anything else we can do, let us know. Happy Mardi Gras!
