Hi Roger, and welcome back to planDisney! We’re always glad to see you back here with another great question. You’ve sent in a tricky one this time, so let’s jump right into it!
Let’s start with what we know for sure. The Kiss Goodnight was a wonderful
Magic Kingdom tradition which typically took place around 30 minutes after park closing on many nights in years past. It was a little extra pixie dust at the end of the night with twinkling lights on
Cinderella Castle and a narrator wishing Guests a fond farewell and goodnight. This special show didn’t appear on the
official park schedule, but true Disney fans and those who did their research knew to stay late and watch for it! As someone who likes to stay out late in the parks, I saw this magical moment many times, and it always felt like the perfect ending to an already perfect day.
As far as whether that tradition continues today, that’s where things are a little uncertain and the best answer I can give you is
maybe. Since the Kiss Goodnight has never officially appeared on the schedule, it’s hard to confirm when or if it will occur. What I can say is that I personally haven’t been lucky enough to catch it in several years. To be sure, I checked with some fellow planDisney panelists, and they too haven’t seen the Kiss Goodnight in a while. While I can’t officially say whether this is a tradition that has gone into the Disney vault, it does at least seem to be much rarer than it once was. For now, it may be one of those Disney unicorns that you’d have to be really lucky or wish upon the right star to see!
Roger, I wish I could give you a more definitive answer, but if you happen to be out late in Magic Kingdom, stick around awhile and take in the magic that can only be felt late at night. You just might get lucky and see the Kiss Goodnight! Wishing you a magical visit!
With faith, trust, & pixie dust,
Casey
