Cheers, Travis! Thanks for sailing by planDisney.
It's always essential to know travel rules when sailing out of the United States, so I appreciate your question, and I am sure fellow cruise planners will too! Let's break down the
travel documentation that's currently necessary to sail.
Round-trip & One-way Cruises (sailing to/from the United States to Mexico, Canada, The Bahamas, and the Caribbean):
- U.S. citizens have to have a valid
U.S. passport, passport card, or Trusted Travel card (NEXUS or FAST)
- If you don't have one of those, you must have one of these three
original documents - a U.S. state-issued birth certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad,
ALONG WITH a physical government-issued photo ID (digital or mobile copies aren't acceptable)
- Children under 15 need one of the above required documents, but aren't required to have the additional photo ID
- Social security cards or Global Entry cards are not valid forms of ID
Travis, remember that travel documents have to be valid for the entire length of
your sail, and the requirements are always subject to change, so I suggest you bookmark the State Department's website and check back frequently before you sail. If you have any other questions, you know where to find us. I wish you much pixie dust with planning!
