Hi Emory!
Welcome Home, and welcome to planDisney! I believe you are asking why
Disney Vacation Club Reservations cannot be made for longer than 30 days. Do know that you can make a reservation for 30 days, check out, and then check back in for another 30-day stay. On one of our winter trips, we met a couple who spent 6 weeks every winter in Florida with their Disney Vacation Club Membership. My husband and I joked that if we ever won the lottery, we would buy enough points to stay all winter long!
While I am not a lawyer (In real life I am a nurse!), I believe this policy has to do with a Florida law that defines a “transient public lodging establishment” or what I would call a hotel or resort, as somewhere where people reside for 30 days or less at a time. There would be a concern that if someone resided in a room for more than this length of time, that person could make a legal argument that they were not a resort Guest but a legal “resident” or “tenant.” While Mickey is happy to have Guests visit him, he doesn’t want to be my landlord!
While I could see that if you wanted to stay longer this would seem like an inconvenience, I do appreciate Disney Vacation Club protecting our Membership by ensuring state law is followed. As I mentioned, we met a couple who does stay for an extended period of time and really enjoyed the experience, and were able to make it work even with needing to check out and check back in. I hope this helps to answer your question, Emory. And if you are going to spend all winter at the
Walt Disney World Resort know that from my cold Indiana home I am very jealous!
Wishing you Membership Magic!
