Welcome to planDisney, Karen, and Happy New Year to you and your family! Your
Walt Disney World Resort visit is almost here, so let's look at ways to help your sweet mom enjoy her time at the Most Magical Place on Earth.
Multi-generational trips are my favorite way to visit the theme parks, so I'm so happy your mother is joining you. But we all know how many Disney miles we can walk daily, so I understand your concern for her stamina. You are welcome to reach out to the
Disability Access Service (DAS) team to explain the details of your request, but this service is designed for guests who have difficulty waiting in queues for extended periods. Guests with mobility concerns are typically not candidates for DAS. But Hakuna Matata! No worries! I have some suggestions for you.
You can
rent a wheelchair or
Electric Conveyance Vehicle at the entrance of each theme park. If your mom isn't accustomed to using one of these in her everyday life, you might explain how it would be there "just in case" she needs it. My dad was hesitant to use a wheelchair for the first time, but I explained that it would make my day easier by knowing we had an option if he got tired. He used it as a walker for most of the day by pushing it himself, but he ended up sitting in the wheelchair and treating us like Cinderella's mice coachmen by the end of the night!
Wheelchairs and scooters are available to rent on a first-come basis at the parks, and you can also book one in advance through ScooterBug, a Disney Featured Provider. You can call them at (800) 726-8284, and they will have your chair or scooter waiting for you at your Disney Resort Hotel.
My family, especially my parents, loved spending a day at
EPCOT.
Soarin' Over California and
Living with the Land were two favorite attractions that all generations enjoyed. We'd spend the evening snacking and shopping our way around World Showcase. I remember how enchanted my mom was when she first strolled through the Mexico pavilion's festive "outdoor" market.
Karen, I hope I've given you some options to consider to help make your upcoming visit smooth sailing for your family. I hope you make some magical memories with your mama, and please stop by
planDisney with any additional questions.
Magic awaits,
Elaine
