Hi Kim!
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! You’ll be thrilled to hear that Disney is AMAZING with
special dietary requests. My sister-in-law also has celiac disease and has traveled with us to the Walt Disney World Resort on several occasions. She often says that she eats the best while at Disney because there are so many delicious and safe options for her!
For table service dining, you should make
Advance Dining Reservations in advance and be sure to note your granddaughter’s gluten restriction on the reservation. Upon arrival, the Cast Members will usually double-check this with you, but be sure to mention it if they don’t. Most locations have special allergy-friendly menus available, and you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the menu and meal options with either a chef of specially trained Cast Member for any questions or alternations that need to be made.
At Quick Service locations, you should notify a Cast Member of your allergy. They will either have a special allergy menu or send a Cast Member to assist you with your order.
It is important to note, that there is not a guarantee on cross-contamination. Food is not prepared in a separate kitchen, but a separate area inside the kitchen. While there is not a 100% guarantee, in my experience, Disney is very vigilant with these issues. I have several friends with children with severe, anaphylactic food allergies, who will tell you they feel very safe dining at Disney.
If you prefer not to dine out, you could consider ordering grocery delivery to your Walt Disney World Resort so that you could pack food you felt safe with. Good options for grocery delivery are Dizzy Dolphin Delivery and Garden Grocer. I have used both services in the past with good experiences with both.
Please let us know what additional questions we can help you with, Kim!
